BOP II Topic of the Week 7/14/25

BOP II Topic of the Week: I found this article about practical cybersecurity tips for adults over 50 that probably applies to everyone. My tip: Do not use 'PurpleElephantTango' as your next password but do follow the helpful tips in the article to create your own. Do you have any new tips?

Interesting article, although those who are less computer literate will probably not see it. (Dang: so much for using PurpleElephantsTango ...)

Until a few years ago I had a "system" for passwords, which involved various groups and subsets below that. Ultimately almost all 90+ passwords were unique. But it necessitated keeping a "just in case" listing, albeit in code, of all passwords. I finally relented to a Password Manager to ensure totally random lengthy passwords for everything. And I use the Brave browser, which requires 2 factor authentication since Brave always clears cookies & history. A pain, but beats the alternative. I'll not go back to the 'try to remember' method. Have a good friend who keeps passwords on scraps of paper in a drawer. Gives me shivers to see that but she's unchanging in her method.

I'm not looking forward to the forced move to passkeys, but I suppose after using for a while they'll be OK.
